Crafty Jane

Brewed for the Craft Beer Co., this had a bitter taste but not excessively so.

Cromarty's "Brewed Awakening"

Subtle coffee taste and recommended.

Craft Beer Co., Islington, N1

just round the corner from me. Fantastic range of cask and keg ales.

Duke of Wellington, N1

This pub was packed with a few nice ales.

Brentwood's "Weald Porter"

Tasty dark ale.

Baxter's Court, E8

A Wetherspoons with the usual good range of ales and a terrace abandoned in the rain.

Plain indulgence

Dark and full-bodied

London Fields Brewery's "Love Not War" & Hackney Brewery's "HB"

Malty and full-bodied ales, the HB a little spicier..

The Pembury Tavern, E8

Great pub with a beer festival on.

Wilmington Arms, EC1R

Only had time for a half having arrived just before closing but this bland-looking pub had a young crowd who'd listened to a band and a few ales I hadn't tried.

Greene King's "Fireside"

After a fine but uninspiring IPA from the same brewer earlier, it was a pleasant surprise to come across an ale from Bury St Edmunds that I didn't know. Full bodied and warming.

St Peter's "Cream Stout"

My favourite of a tasty tasting evening. Really good body.

Jerusalem Tavern, EC1M

This pub is St Peter's Brewery's only one and I had to barge through suits to get to the bar. Small but would be cosy if you could get a seat.

Fuller's "Jack Frost"

Had this before but worth blogging about now. Warmed the cockles of me soul.

The Artillery Arms, EC1Y

Busy Fuller's pub for a Wednesday night with the usual goodness on offer from the brewery.

Angel, EC1Y

Heaving Cask Marque pub with a choice of Fuller's Pride or Greene King IPA when I went in.

Shepherd Neame's "Spooks"

A little late for Halloween but a tasty malty dark ale.

Shepherd Neame's "Late Red"

A lovely dark number.

Prince Arthur, N1

About four fifths of the punters were playing darts in a massive team game when I walked in after a game of squash nearby. The landlady was friendly and even gave me the choice of any free sandwich. Great service and a range of the brewery's ales on top of that. Very pleasant. The only thing about some of these Shepherd Neame pubs is that the black and white with red trim signs lack character.

The Lady Ottoline, WC1N

Named for a society hostess and patron of the arts who lived in the Bloomsbury area, the cask marque pub only had a couple of ales on when I visited. I had the Sambrook's Pumphouse Pale Ale.

The Hat and Tun, EC1N

A casque mark pub with only two ales. I've had so much Doombar recently that I went for a London Pride instead.

Dark Star's "Revelation"

A strong light ale with a citrus taste.

Craft Beer Co., Clerkenwell EC1N

A head-scratching range of ales. They are opening an Islington pub this week so I thought I'd get a sneak preview. Wonderful.

Growler Brewery's "Dapper"

A lovely ale for the cold, wet London autumn.

Sambrook's "Junction"

A fairly straight forward bitter named for Clapham Junction, near where the brewery is.

Duchess of Kent, N1

This busy casque mark pub & restaurant had a fair old crowd for a Sunday afternoon but didn't have the greatest ale selection.

The Porcupine, WC2H

This is a great little ale pub right next to Leicester Square station. Came in here for real beer ahead of (and during) my birthday do at a nearby bar. Had a lovely pint of Downton Brewery's "Chocolate Orange Delight" and a Rudgate's Ruby Mild.

White Bear, HA4

My phone app told me the Premier Inn/Orchard across the road was the place to go but I'm glad I didn't forgo a look-in on this pleasant boozer where I supped a DoomBar in front of a fire.

Black Sheep's "Progress"

Tasty dark ale I had in a Casque Mark pub in Ruislip.

Tuesday 6 November 2012

Hardy & Hanson's "Olde Trip"

Great dark ale I enjoyed in a pub round the corner.

The Globe, NW1

My preference over the Wetherspoons across the road, though that has a better range of beers, because of the light and the space outside. I met Tim here tonight and chewed the fat over pints of Abbots and Hobgoblin.

Banks's "Mild"

Always a good sup.

Jennings' "Bitter Lakeland Ale"

Tasty drop courtesy of Brian.
